15:00 Keynotes by Amir Bachrouri, Sabrine Ingabire and Chris Keulemans

Three writers set the tone, each from their own background.

Columnist Amir Bachrouri was president of the Flemish Youth Council from early 2021 to late 2023. Last year, he published his debut novel Doe maar niet, about the fire of youth that is always being put out.

Sabrine Ingabire is a Rwandan-Belgian journalist, writer and the editor-in-chief of Lilith Magazine. She also writes regular pop culture columns for Dipsauce Podcast. Previously, Ingabire worked as an editor and reporter at NRC, as a columnist at De Morgen and MO* Magazine.

Chris Keulemans is a travelling writer, journalist, moderator and lecturer. In the 1990s, he was director of de Balie, centre for culture and politics in Amsterdam. From 2006 to 2014, he was founder and artistic director of the Tolhuistuin, a new arts centre in Amsterdam Noord.

16:15 The voice of young people

Young people are called the hope of the future, but point us to the legacy of the previous generation(s). Four artists put their ear to the next generation and together write the climate agenda. Together, they present the results of the workshops.

Besides being a baker, forester and philosopher, Sanne Huysmans is also a writer. Her books focus on simple living and service. Her debut novel Rafelen (2017) was awarded the Confiture Booksellers’ Audience Award . Early this year, she published Iemand moest het doen, a gentle portrait of the residents of an ordinary Flemish village street learning to cope with change. At the secondary school ‘t Vier, she is organising a philosophical-literary workshop on responsibility, service and the transition to a sustainable society.

Tine van Aerschot studied visual arts and computer graphics and developed into a dramaturge, writer, scenographer, theatre maker and multimedia artist. She worked a.o. for Meg Stuart / Damaged Goods. She is a regular guest as a resident at art centre BUDA and has already performed twice at the NEXT festival. Together with students of Kortrijk Conservatory, she will work on artistic pamphlets.

Jana De Kockere is a theatre-maker and philosopher of science. She searches for the truth about the truth, both in books and on stage. She already did this at Camping Sunset and alongside Julian Hetzel. She is also an editor at Rekto:Verso. She guides a group of young people following OKAN classes.

18:30 Keynote Sander Heijne: It’s not your fault, but you can do something about it

In climate debates, blame is all too quickly placed on ‘the other’. Dutch investigative journalist and historian Sander Heijne looks beyond the blame game to constructive solutions. In doing so, he allows himself to be influenced by all the statements of the day and formulates his conclusion.

20:15 The dreamer is the one listening to the dream – Peter Aers

What are the stories that seep into our dreams through the cracks of our landscapes? In this lecture performance, artist, philosopher and arborist Peter Aers shares a two-year investigation into (night) dreaming. In his research, he used Social Dreaming, a practice developed in the UK by psychologist Gordon Lawrence: a group of people share their night dreams, after which more dreams are evoked through association. After conducting sessions in different locations and with different groups (such as firefighters, visually impaired people etc), Peter Aers discovered that the context and landscape in which we share dreams influences which dreams are shared, and more specifically night dreams that manifest later.

Another substantial part of his research was setting up The Premonitions Bureau where people share their dreams.

Peaceful Solutions

The Peaceful Solutions action counterbalances polarisation and seeks ways to reconnect people. At 21:30, transdisciplinary artist Lucia Palladino and Lieve Zusjes Stoere Broers will pull you into nature for a poetic activist walk in the forest.
